- Daniel Mayfield
Sullen gods, Merry Mice
I find more joy in dirt than clouds
When my head is not so swollen
And my words are imprecise
By grace I see beyond the layered shrouds
The strangest joy comes when sullen
We are not gods! No, mice.
Anxiety is oft' the friend of pomp and pride
So humble men marry joy
And the proudest men, suicide
"Pull up your boots," they said, they lied
"Believe in you" is an ancient ploy
I found my life the day I died
